Fix: Microsoft Outlook fails to start in Windows XP

If when you try to launch Outlook in Windows XP, the program fails to start and you also receive an error message, then this article may interest you.

Depending on the version of Outlook you are running, the error message reads;
Outlook 2010: Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Outlook 2007: Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened.
Outlook 2003: Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window.
Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2000:
i) Unable to open the Outlook window.
ii) No profile has been created.
iii) The list of Profiles cannot be loaded. An unexpected error has occurred.

You may experience this issue, if the Outlook.exe file is configured on the Windows XP machine to open by using the Windows program compatibility mode setting.

This can be explained, as the location of the Outlook Profile information in the registry is different on the editions of Windows XP.

To fix this problem automatically, download and run Microsoft Fix it 50769 solution.
