Fix: Small Business Server (SBS) Installation fails with error message ‘Active Directory Replication is taking longer than expected’

This article may interest you, if during the installation of Small Business Server 2011 Standard, Small Business Server 2008 Standard, Small Business Server 2008 Premium, the process fails with the error message; ‘Active Directory Replication is taking longer than expected‘.

You experience this issue, when Active Directory SysVol Replication has not completed.

The new server cannot become a true functioning Domain Controller until the SysVol replication completes. Once the Sysvol replication completes, the Netlogon and Sysvol folders will be shared out and the new server will be considered a valid domain controller.

Microsoft recommends that you do not click No. Recommends that you leave the warning on the screen and manually check replication. Once you are sure replication is working 100%, you should click Yes and let the setup process retry the operation.

To resolve this issue, on the source server, restart the File Replication Service. See Microsoft KB2612832 for steps on how to restart FRS
