Fix: Windows Update error 80072EFD when checking for updates

If while checking for updates and you receive Windows Update error 80072EFD, then this article may interest you.

You may experience this issue, if one of the following conditions is true:
– There is a high number of update requests on the Windows Update servers.
– Applications or processes that interfere with Internet communications
– Resource issues on your computer
– High Internet activity
– Recoverable database errors

To resolve this issue, close Windows Update, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then run Windows Update again. You can also wait for Windows Update to run at its next scheduled time (24-hour time cycle).

If this error still persists, Microsoft KB836941 recommends, you try the following methods in this order:
Method 1: Verify Internet connectivity
Method 2: Make sure that Windows Firewall is turned on, and temporarily disable third-party firewalls
Method 3: Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software
Method 4: Disable software accelerator programs
Method 5: Add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the Trusted Sites list
Method 6: Make sure that you have the latest Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) update installed
