Fix: Outlook 2007 stops responding when you try to open an encrypted email message

If when you try to open an encrypted email message in Microsoft Outlook 2007 and Outlook stops responding or freezes, then this article may interest you.

This issue occurs because the Key Management Service (KMS) is enabled in Office Outlook 2007.

To apply this hotfix, you must have Microsoft Office 2007 Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed.

Visit Microsoft KB2553012, download and apply the available hotfix.

The KMS will be disabled, after you install the hotfix. To enable it again, do the following:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Type AllowKMSCertRefreshFromAD, and then press ENTER.
5. In the Details pane, right-click AllowKMSCertRefreshFromAD, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
