To resolve this issue, Microsoft KB975723 recommends you try these trobleshooting steps:
1. Remove Powerpoint Preferences
2. Try Powerpoint in Safe Mode Boot
3. Remove and then reinstall Office
4. Use the “Repair Disk Permissions” option
This fix applies to PowerPoint 2004 for Mac, PowerPoint 2008 for Mac & PowerPoint for Mac 2011.
